The Challenge
A 15-metre pohutukawa had developed significant structural defects including a large cavity at the base and co-dominant stems with included bark. The tree overhung a heritage villa and was within falling distance of a neighbouring property. Auckland Council required a detailed arborist report before any work could proceed.
Our Approach
Our senior arborist conducted a thorough Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) and prepared a comprehensive arborist report documenting the tree's structural defects. After securing council approval, we planned a crane-assisted sectional dismantle to remove the tree safely without damaging either property. Traffic management was coordinated with Auckland Transport for the crane setup on the narrow residential street.
The Result
The tree was safely removed over two days with zero property damage. The stump was ground below grade and the site was left clean and tidy. The homeowner planted three replacement native trees (two kowhai and a lacebark) recommended by our arborist to maintain the property's green character while avoiding future structural issues.
