Section Clearing for New Build in Merivale, Christchurch
Species: Mixed species incl. Copper Beech (Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea)
The Challenge
A developer purchased a large Merivale section for a new residential build. The site contained 22 trees of varying species and sizes, including a notable copper beech that the council required to be retained. The developer needed the site cleared efficiently while protecting the copper beech and complying with Christchurch City Council's tree protection rules.
Our Approach
Our arborist surveyed all 22 trees and prepared a tree protection management plan identifying which trees could be removed and detailing protection measures for the copper beech during construction. We installed tree protection fencing at the drip line of the retained tree before any machinery entered the site. Removal of the 21 trees was completed systematically from the site boundary inward.
The Result
The site was fully cleared in 3 days, with all stumps ground and debris removed. The copper beech was successfully protected with zero root zone disturbance. The arborist report and tree protection plan satisfied council requirements, enabling the building consent to proceed without delay. The developer estimated our efficient approach saved them two weeks on their project timeline.
"ArborCare's arborist report and tree protection plan sailed through council. Their on-site team was fast and professional. Highly recommend for development projects."
